Roadfest Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Roadfest is a navigation and social app for drivers. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Your profile: name, handle, bio, home area, photos and the cars in your garage, including build history you add.
- Your account email, used to sign you in, and to reply if you send us feedback. If you sign in with Apple, we get the email Apple shares (which can be a private relay address) and, the first time, your name to fill in your profile.
- Your location: used on your phone for directions. It's only shared with others while Roadfest is open, while you're navigating, or (with "Share my location while I'm driving", on unless you switch it off) while Roadfest notices you're driving, every few seconds, and only if you choose "Everyone nearby" or "Friends only". If you switch on "Share my location while Roadfest is closed", it keeps being shared the same way in the background at other times too, about once a minute while you're moving. We keep only your latest position on our server, not a history.
- Motion & Fitness (optional): used on your phone only, to tell when you're in a car so drives are recorded from the start and walks or bike rides aren't. It is never uploaded.
- Fuel prices: to show prices along your route, the app asks our server for filling stations near the places on your route. Prices come from the UK Government's Fuel Finder open data.
- Your drives, in the background (optional): with "Record drives automatically" on and location set to "Always", Roadfest notices when you start driving and records the route into your drive history, even when the app is closed. Your drive history is stored only on your phone: it is never uploaded unless you choose to share a drive, and it isn't shown to friends. You can turn this off in Settings ▸ Driving, delete drives one by one or all at once, and change location access in iOS Settings at any time.
- Messages you send to friends, convoys and the local channel.
- Meets, convoys and drives you create or join, including a meet's location and place name, which everyone who can see the meet can see.
- Reports you send about other people or content.
- Feedback you send from Settings, with the app's version and your iPhone model. We see your account email with it so we can reply.
- Stats such as distance driven, trips, meets attended and roads discovered.
- Posts in your activity feed (new cars, build updates, meets, badges), visible to friends and people who follow you, plus Respect and comments.
- Road ratings: when you rate roads after a drive, the shape of those roads and your star rating. The first and last 500 m of the trip, anything inside a privacy zone, and when you drove are never sent. Others only see each road's average rating, never who rated it.
- Clubs you create or join, hazards and spots you report (these are public to nearby drivers), and meet photos you add (number plates are blurred automatically before upload).
- Crash reports from iOS, if “Share crash reports” is on. These contain technical data only.
Kept on your phone only, never uploaded: your drive history, your recent searches and dropped pins, privacy zones, car documents, your number plate and VIN, fuel log, wishlist and budget, MOT/tax/service reminders, and your car-spotting collection.
Other services: if you use “Fill in from VIN”, the VIN is sent to the US NHTSA vehicle database to look up the make and model. Maps, directions and place search are provided by Apple.
AI road trip planner: when you plan a trip, its details (start and end, dates, days, interests, notes and your car's name) and nearby great roads go to our server and on to Anthropic, whose AI (Claude) researches and plans the trip using web search. Your name, account and location history aren't sent. We keep only a note of when you planned a trip, to limit how many can be planned each month. Planned trips are saved on your phone.
Car lookup: if your car isn't in the built-in catalogue and you look it up online, what you type (for example "2016 Vauxhall Astra 1.4T SRi") goes to our server and on to Anthropic, whose AI (Claude) searches the web for the maker's figures. Nothing else about you is sent. We keep only a note of when you looked a car up, for the daily limit.
Road data: road types, villages, single-track lanes, speed bumps, hills, speed limits, fixed speed cameras and great driving roads come from data built into the app (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL; contains OS data © Crown copyright and database right 2026). Nothing about your route is sent anywhere to use it.
How location sharing works
- Friends can see your exact position while you share with them.
- Other drivers only ever see a rough area (about 500 m). The blurring happens on our server, so your exact position is never sent to them.
- Ghost mode hides you from everyone straight away.
- Positions older than 15 minutes are never shown.
- Shared drives show the route only, never when you drove it.
- Privacy zones (set in Settings, stored on your phone only) hide you completely near places like home, and trim recorded drives so they never start or end there.
- Local channel messages are tied to a rough area, not your exact position.
Notifications, iCloud and weather
- Notifications: if you allow them, your phone's notification token is stored on our server so we can tell you about new messages, friend requests and invites. Notification text (e.g. the start of a message) passes through Apple's push service.
- iCloud backup (optional): your drive history is copied to your own iCloud Drive. Roadfest's server never sees it.
- Weather along the route: a few points along your planned route are sent to Apple's weather service to get the forecast.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
- We never upload, share or reward your speed. Your drive history (on your phone only) shows your own average and top speed for each drive.
- We don't keep your date of birth. We only note that you confirmed you're 18 or over.

- Block anyone. They can't see you or contact you, and you won't see them.
- Report anything that worries you. Reports are anonymous to the person reported.
- Delete your account in Settings ▸ Delete account and data. This removes your profile, garage, photos, drives, messages and location from our server and your phone.
